soldier fly

Microchrysa sp.

Description:

This resembles my other Microchrysa (flavicornis) spottings although much larger, so I am tentatively calling it Microchrysa sp.

Habitat:

Observed here on a Hibiscus sp. leaf in a large semi-urban yard & garden next to a disturbed patch of remnant lowland forest in the equatorial tropics of northern New Guinea.

Notes:

Flash photography during the afternoon.
