Golden Hypomyces / Bolete Eater

Description:

This fungi you see is actually not the mushrooms itself but a mold that attacks certain mushrooms, most typically boletes. It is characterized by 3 stages of growth, the first turns the mushrooms being attacked white, followed by a yellow stage, and finally a red stage (the mushrooms is usually severely decayed by this point.

Habitat:

Widespread through N. America on specific types of boletes.

Notes:

Found transitioning between stages 1 and 2.
