Astonishing! Where exactly did you spot this? The map says LA. Is there a Bristlecone Pine forest nearby? Seems like there are two species in Cali. so could help work out which it is, if Seema is right, and they certainly look old enough.

From the twisted, gnarled trunk, i think it is bristle cone pine.
