Thanks for the input guys I'm new to this thing and I didn't update the spotting right away. This was a roughly 15in smallmouth bass that I caught at dusk.

A rock bass would also have a mottled grayish pattern of scales, whereas the smallmouth has one uniform color.

If the eyes are bright red with a black pupil it is a rock bass. If not you might want to check out smallmouth bass.
