Little Pansy or Little Commodore

Junonia sophia

Description:

The Little Pansy or Little Commodore (Junonia sophia) is a butterfly in the Nymphalidae family. This very pretty species is found in degraded forest habitats, e.g. in clearings, glades and along wide logging roads. It is also common in parks and gardens. The butterflies tend to form small colonies. Typically a dozen or so can be found flying together in sunny forest glades and similar semi-open habitats, where they bask on grass-heads or flowers with wings fully outspread.

Habitat:

Seen on a walk into the forest. It was on bushes beside the trail.

Notes:

Kibale National Park (pronounced Chibale) is a national park in South Uganda protecting moist evergreen rain forest. It is 766 km² in size and is located between 1,100–1,600 meters in elevation.. The northern part of the park has the highest elevation. Kibale is one of the last remaining expanses to contain both lowland and montane forests. In East Africa, it sustains the last significant expanse of pre-montane forest.
