Chicken of the Woods

Laetiporus sulphureus

Description:

I found this Chicken of the Woods on the side of an ash tree. It was there for a few days until someone apparently cut it down with a hacksaw. I did eat a slice (raw!) just after taking this picture however. And yes, it tastes just like chicken. I subsequently learned that it's best to cook it first as it can be toxic to some.

Habitat:

Ash trunk in open woodlands near the roadside.
