Leptophis mexicanus
I spotted this snake in the Mayan ruins at Tulum, Mexico. Looks somewhat like the garter snakes we have up here in Canada but brighter colors.
Yes it is the same thing and also got its name in Spanish. A lit a bit confusing ;)
Thanks for the IDs Saitra Ines and CarbonEngineer. It seems that the Green-headed tree snake and the Mexican Parrot Snake are the same thing, I found this website http://www.yucatanwildlife.com/species/r... that lists them as the same thing (#31 under non-venomous snakes) . Thank you all for your help in figuring this one out!
That would be great Rachel because I'm really confused now with parrot and vine snakes!
Thanks for all the input everyone! I'm leaning towards a Mexican parrot snake but I'm going to go back and see if I have any other photos from this trip that would help with the ID
More than likely, you are correct, however, I'll post a spotting from last year of a very similar animal that was on my roof and ID ed as a green vine snake. Isn't the Mexican parrot snake more gold on the top, rather than solid green?
