Description:

Purple orchid tree blossom, from Pinellas County, Florida. The flowers have a wonderful scent.

Habitat:

Found in various places along the Suncoast of Florida.

Notes:

These trees look half-dead when they suddenly burst into bloom; their leaves are becoming dry and tinged with brown as these beautiful flowers emerge. The flowers only last a week or two before they fall and carpet the yard.
