Flower wasp

Tiphiidae

Description:

A large parasitoid wasp sometimes called a flower wasp that typically lays eggs in scarab beetles. She surely had a lot of beetles to choose from although the swarm of green chafers nearby seemed to be quite small for a larvae of such a large wasp. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/605...

Notes:

Thanks ken walker for the ID http://www.bowerbird.org.au/observations...

Thanks Lauren. This one had me a bit nervous and I was grateful for a 100mm lens.
