Orchard Swallowtail Butterfly

Papilio aegeus

Description:

FAMILY - PAPILIONIDAE Large female (about 12cm). Black and white with vibrant red, yellow and blue dots along lower wings.

Habitat:

Caterpillars feed on and form pupas on citrus plants. Butterfly sighted here flying around small orange tree and between several citrus plants, possibly laying eggs.

Notes:

Largest butterfly around Brisbane. Slow moving but almost constant and eratic. Increasing numbers of caterpillars at the mo. Most recent sighted pupa was attacked by ants/wasps?
