American Strawberry Bush

Euonymus americanus

Description:

The bright red seed capsule of Euonymus americanus bursts open in the fall, giving the plant it's "Bursting-heart" common name. I watched for the first hint of these at the end of summer, and finally found some. Here's a sighting of another specimen in flower: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/243...

Habitat:

Native to Eastern US.

Notes:

Spotted growing in a marshy area near the swim beach at Cauble Park on Acworth Lake.
