Heather ... These diatoms still have their innards but many microscopists clean them out to better show their shells. I have a "clean" one ready for posting and will be uploading it in the next day of two.

Very cool. my Dad has a microscope with a camera mount so hopefully I will get to do some microscopic critters soon!
