Celeus castaneus
From googling it looks like a chestnut-colored woodpecker, but it doesn't have a red cheek patch so I don't know for sure - perhaps a youngster? I don't usually put anything on the feeder, haven't for many months, but today I put some papaya out and he showed up right away.

I planted a couple of stalks of wild ginger last year, now it is a healthy clump and these woodpeckers just love it! There is a pair now, and they feed regularly on the wild ginger.
beautiful!
Wonderful one!
No, we do not have them here, looks like they like it lower and I am 900 meters up, I will go see them for sure, they are gorgeous.
Here I have lots of Linieted Woodpeckers, Dryocopus lineatus and Hoffmann's Woodpecker, Melanerpes hoffmannii some others.
Looks like only the east side... http://www.iucnredlist.org/details/10060...
Hi Gilma, I see you're in Alajuela - you might not have them there, but if you're ever in Tortuguero drop by and see this one! cheerio
From googling a bit, I think that this is the female bird and that's why there isn't that very red ear patch: http://neotropical.birds.cornell.edu/por...
The female does not have the red patch on the cheek - I think you have the ID correct. Fantastic bird!
Love It!
