Mimetic Gumleaf Grasshopper

Goniaea australasiae

Description:

About 50mm long.
Adult (unknown sex)
Very good approximation of the dried gumleaves.

Habitat:

In dry sclerophyll forest behind the wall of Melbourne's largest reservoir.

Notes:

Phone cam.. Like many mimetic animals these often stay perfectly still for a photo shoot.
Eight species in this genus with some very difficult to tell apart when nymphal.
