Colchicum montanum

Description:

Also known as Merendera montana. Bulbous plant 5-15 cm, with a bulbous from which come out 1-3 flowers that consist of a tube formed by six flower petals (tepals) of pinkish colour with six yellow-orange stems. It flowers during the autumn. This plant contains alcaloids (colchicine) that keeps herbivorous away.

Habitat:

Endemic of the Iberian peninsula. Spotted at the mountains, at 1800 meters high. Pine tree forest. Parque Nacional de Sierra de Guadarrama

Gracas Marta, pues parece ser que como sale en otoño, pues coincide con la epoca de año en que al acortarse las tardes la gente de entonces suprimía las meriendas porque se cenaba mucho antes que en verano. También le llaman espantapastores, porque coincide con la época en que los pastores abandonan las montañas y bajan al llano. Además, tambien tiene el nombre en latín de Merendera montana.
