Desmognathus monticola
Seal salamanders are a lungless salamander and possess slits extending below each nostril. They also have a laterally compressed tail that gives the tail a fin-like appearance. Seal salamanders are extremely variable in color and can have a similar appearance to dusky salamanders; however seal salamanders have plain bellies while dusky salamanders have speckled bellies. A light stripe from the eye diagonally to the lower jaw is present in young salamanders of both species.
