Janardana Bushbrown

Mycalesis janardana micromede

Description:

Nymphalidae; Satyrinae: Mycalesis janardana micromede Fruhstorfer, 1900. This is the first M. J. micromede that I have ever seen (at least, the first I have photographed) and when I saw it this morning at 7:00am, it was resting on a leaf, beside a Mycalesis frederici. That was an unusual sight and I was so keen to get some pictures of the two species, side-by-side, that I didn't think about one of them being a new species to me. When I took the photo shown here, I did not realise until I reviewed my pictures later that the small butterfly was completely hidden behind the bigger one. So, luck was with me and I had one picture of M .J. micromede, on its own, to enable it to be placed in a separate spotting.

Habitat:

This Janardana Bushbrown was spotted in our backyard early this morning.

Notes:
