Pacific rhododendron

Rhododendron macrophyllum

Description:

large cluster of pink flowers on a woody bush with evergreen, oval leaves.

Habitat:

Pacific temperate rain forest, as an understory to Douglas fir, hemlock and spruce, but getting much larger in clearings

Notes:

This is the native variety for our area. These are actually carnivorous plants; their sticky hairs will glue hapless bugs to them, which they slowly digest. It's not a large source of diet for them, though.
