White-crowned sparrow (juvenile)

Description:

This juvenile (fledgling) was hopping from limb to limb with one of its parents nearby. Juvenile plumage is muted. Adults have striking black and white stripes on their heads while juveniles are grey and brown. Body buff with faint streaks.

Habitat:

Spotted in thick vegetation at the Bayshore Preserve next to the Oakland Bay in western Washington.
