Thanks, you are right! I just did some research on the internet and they are Whimbrels indeed. It is the Numenius phaeopus variegatus species that breeds in East Siberia and during migration stops in Australia too.
They look like Whimbrels, Numenius phaeopus. I'm just not sur that they occur in Australia
