this landed on my backpack while hiking in Chapada dos Guimaraes national park.
Yeah, I did a search, I never realized there were so many leaf footed bugs on Project Noah. It does look like phyllopus, I'll add it.
It looks very much like Leptoglossus phyllopus: http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/creatures/orn/.... In the above link it mentions them listed as occurring as far south as Brazil.
We've been getting good distribution for the leaf-footed bugs. They've been being posted from all over. Clearly they are not camera shy.

It's closely related to the assassin bugs, but I think this one is a leaf-footed bug. It's a beautiful spotting, you're lucky that it decided to land on your backpack!
