Very nice picture! The spiders of Costa Rica must be amazing. This spider is a member of the family Araneidae, most likely Eriophora nephiloides.

It resembles the Marbled orb weaver in some ways, especially the black and white banding on the legs. I wonder if it's in the same Orb weaver (Araneidae) family?
