Phalacrocorax auritus
Dark overall with yellow skin at the base of the bill and on the throat.
Spotted at Lake Chicot State Park.
Most birds have a preen gland at the base of the tail that produces an oil that waterproofs their feathers. Cormorants do not have a preen gland. Instead, they perch on trees and posts with their wings spread to dry their feathers in the sun and wind.
