Tea mosquito as a pest on Garden balsam

Description:

Tea mosquito bug is a serious pest of many crops, the most affected crop being Cashew. This is for the first time that it has been found to attack Garden balsam resulting in no flowering.

Habitat:

In Balsam garden under good sunlight. Plants were attacked before flowering.

Notes:

Spotted by myself and my son Gautam P. Ajith. Apical buds and flower buds fully damaged except for a very few. Causes reddish brown depressions on leaves especially on the leaves around the apical bud. Plant apex shows brown rusting. Flowers not usually seen on the affected plants.
