Pacific crabapple

Pyrus fusca

Description:

Apple-type white blossoms on a low tree, leaves just emerging.

Habitat:

coastal temperate rain forest, at open spaces between conifer forest of Douglas fir, Sitka spruce and western hemlock

Notes:

Branches of this tree are very strong and can grow in crooks and even right angles, making the rightly chosen branch a good choice for a shinny stick (a kind of Indian field hockey).
