Northern American Toad

Anaxyrus americanus

Description:

There was a frenzy of toads mating at our neighbors pond today. Many hundreds were jumping around in the water, piled up on top of each other. Some toads were mating in piles of 3 - 5. Toads have bumpy skin called warts. Unlike frogs with smooth skin. Notice the strands of eggs with little black dots being laid near the frogs.

Habitat:

Fresh water pond

Notes:

So very wonderful to see!
