Small Tortoiseshell

Aglais urticae

Description:

This is a common european very colourful butterfly, some 5 cm in wingspan. Wings are bright orange with dark-brown and white spots; and brown edges with blue fields on their margins. Two shades of brown underneath (pic N° 4).

Habitat:

This a common Palearctic species, linked to nettle - here observed feeding on honeysuckle. Observed on mountain pastures on edges of montane forests in Jura range.
