Austral parakeet/Cachaña

Enicognathus ferrugineus

Description:

The austral parakeet is only found on the southern tip of South America, and found further south than any other parrot species in the Americas. A mostly green and emerald parrot with some red on the underbelly.

Habitat:

Tree in shrubland. Other habitats can include southern beech and araucaria forests, and farmland.

Notes:

Spotted as part of a flock of about 10 near the Patagonian settlement of El Chaltén (the local Indian name for mount FitzRoy). That flock congregated at that tree everyday at dawn and dusk only, making taking good pics difficult.
