Monarch butterfly

Danaus Plexippus

Description:

Monarch chrysalises and butterfly hanging inside a milk crate.

Habitat:

Suburban garden in Sarasota, Florida.

Notes:

There are two milkweed plants in my garden. From those two plants came six caterpillars and six chrysalises. Three of the chrysalises were easy to find under the eave of the roof and the windowsill. The last three I found by pure chance while turning on the hose. There is an upside down milk crate underneath the hose nozzle and a few feet from the milkweed plants. Three of the six caterpillars chose to pupate inside that milk crate, and all three emerged as butterflies. http://www.lettuceshare.com/2011/04/28/c...
