btw im curious about 1 thing..I spotted this nest near a riverbank..On a gradual slope..How likely is it that the ants would build a nest there??
And o ya @JuanDiTrani:The black stuff wasnt a colony of ants..No movement at all in the nest or the vicinity

Hey people made the changes ull suggested..
@auntnance123..the pic u sent was convincing to say the least..
Arthropod and 'Signs of Life' it is

Ants visible or not, I agree with Juan. The spotting is of an arthropod nest therefore it goes under arthropods. A "sign of wildlife" belongs to the group that it represents. "Other" means "other organisms" not otherwise listed in the categories. Examples would be jellyfish, clams, snails and worms. Cheers all!

ants are the black tiny things in the entrace of the nest

I agree with Frazier, this is a good fit for Signs of Life Mission, but since this is an ant nest, and ants are actually visible, it should be included in Arthropods category, not in Others category.

Note also that no ants are visible in the photo. But the nest is there indicating -- a sign -- that they are or have been there. :-)

I think this is Ant Nest

Nests and other structures are not species but artifacts or signs of those species. This is from the mission page: "Use this mission to share the bones, fossils, webs, eggs, tracks, and OTHER SIGNS [emphasis added] of wildlife you come across while exploring nature." It is a perfect fit. Please also note the second comment above. Thanks.

I think it's a perfect fit for Signs of Wildlife Mission (afterall the poor spotter waited with some trepidation for the architects of this lovely structure).

These ants are very mighty... they rebuild the walls whenever damaged....!!

AuntNance is correct, this would be the mound of the Fortress Ant.

Yes Nance its Ant Fortress find in Western ghats of India or Sahyadri mountain. Its a kind of Harvester ant.

Why not add to the "Signs of Wildlife" mission? :-)

I think it's an ant mound (sculpture). There's a similar spotting here but I can't seem to find it currently.
