Flesh fly

Description:

Large black and white fly with a checker board pattern on the abdomen.

Habitat:

Common across the UK, especially in wooded areas.

Notes:

This fly gives birth to live young. This is because they live on rotting flesh. It would take too long for the eggs to develop and hatch so the larvae are deposited directly onto the meat and can feed immediately.
