American dagger moth

Acronicta americana

Description:

The older caterpillar's setae are either pale yellow or white. All instars have thin, black setae on the first and third abdominal segments. On the eighth abdominal segment, there is one tuft of black setae. The caterpillar will reach a length 50 mm (2.0 in)

Habitat:

Cerro del Avila, Caracas, Venezuela.

Notes:

This was the closest ID I could find. I am not sure if it is correct as it seems to be a North American moth. If anyone disagrees with the ID please let me know. It was hard to get a focused picture of its head as all I had with me was an android phone.

Hi ForestDragon
I know I wasn't so sure either but it was the closest I could find.
Anyone else has an idea please?

I don't believe this is an American Dagger Moth caterpillar. I do think it may be a Tiger Moth of some type, however, I am woefully inexperienced in identifying South American species.
