Neil, these bugs are complex and we will go crazy, but please check the link. Your flatid bug has a pointed tip at the back, like a rose thorn. The Wiki link to Acanalonia has a rounded back wing (and other differences) and you'll surely find some of them soon. Nice pic too.
Ceherzog is right on the dot with this one. I love planthoppers, it's a shame they're so unappreciated.
