Leopard

Panthera pardus

Description:

The muscles attached to the scapula are exceptionally strong, which enhance their ability to climb trees. They are very diverse in size. Males are about 30% larger than females, weighing 30 to 91 kg (66 to 200 lb) compared to 23 to 60 kg (51 to 130 lb) for females.

Habitat:

savanna

Notes:

This leopard was spotted while on safari but really, I'm not sure how it was spotted. It was in a tree almost 250' (80m) from the road thats why the photos are not the greatest. I really had to zoom in to capture this leopard. He was dozing when we saw him and as you can see, got up, stretched out and then sat for a while. This was spotted in Ngorongoro Crater National Park. Leopards are the most difficult to spot out of the 'Big Five' which also includes elephants, buffaloes, rhinos and lions.
