Stag Beetle (female)

Description:

Large beetle...looks like a Rhino beetle. dark coloured. The green shades on the back reminds me of the green patina on old bronze.

Habitat:

Neora Valley Jungle Camp. About 3 hours drive from the coordinates shown. Remote hilly forested area. Himalayan foothills.

Stag beetle female (Lucanidae).

Note the difference: Scarabs have the tip of antennae composed of leaf-formed segments (fan-like), while in Stag and Bess beetles, they are comb-like.
