If it rattled its tail it should definitely be a rat snake. If it was audible, then it was just the tail vibrating against the leaves.

Yasser, thank you and I know. He's alive and well. However I have 3 small children and he was living where they play. It's a mommy thing. :-)

Hi Kim, keep in mind that rat snakes play a pivotal role in keeping rodent populations in balance and without them you'd notice a serious increase in furry visitors. Not all animals are perceived as cute or cuddly, but they each have an important role to play in their respective ecosystems. As a community, we're not just trying to bring awareness to the amazing diversity of species found around the world. We also want to build an understanding and appreciation for the interconnectedness of life on the planet. That's where the name Networked Organisms and Habitats comes from. At Project Noah, we definitely celebrate life in all its forms! :) Hope that makes sense and welcome to the community!

Thank you. That's what we thought. :) I'd prefer him identified as dead.

Hard to say from that photo but I would guess you're looking at a Texas Rat Snake
