Annual Cicada

Tibicen sp.

Description:

A large cicada, about an inch and 1/2 in length. Hardened larval shell ready for emerging. The shell is transparent in a couple of area revealing the cicada inside.

Habitat:

Woodland habitat at Blackhawk State Park

Notes:

I found this one hanging on a tree in the morning, but was bummed that I wouldn't be able to photograph it emerging, as I was not going to be there.

Thanks Maria! Wish I could have watched the entire show, but will have to wait for another individual.
