Schistocerca lineata
The spotted bird grasshopper is green, yellow or brown, usually with distinct pits on the thorax and yellow dots. Most of the time there are no spots on the sides of the thorax, but some do. The coloring is darker on top than on sides, and with a stripe down the back. Sometimes the stripe is not as pronounced or missing. The wings are usually the same color as the body, but may be brown in green spotted bird grasshoppers. The abdomen usually has a row of dark (usually black) dots near the rear edge of the sides of each segment.
The Spotted Bird Grasshopper is very wide spread and common throughout the Great Plains and Prairie States east of the Rockies. This specimen was found in Louisiana.
