Sarracenia purpurea
This fascinating plant grows about 1-2 feet tall. It's "pitchers" trap unwary insects that enter. Downward pointing hairs prevent the insect from climbing back to the pitcher's mouth. Eventually the insect falls into digestive fluids at the bottom of the pitcher.
Bogs and wetlands.
This particular plant was found while I was on a wilderness canoe trip in northern Minnesota's (US) Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness Area. I photographed it from the canoe as it was growing on a floating mat of vegetation.
