Yellow Crab Spider

Thomisus spectabilis

Description:

Yellow crab spider. Yellow abdomen 5mm in size, body 8mm. Also known as Flower spider. According to the research they change colour and lay in wait for prey to visit the flowers they hide on.

Habitat:

Kapok Tree Savannah Woodlands Kimberley. I found this beauty when I was trying to get a photograph of the Kapok flower.

Notes:

The flower crab spiders are the species for which the popular name was coined, because of their crab-like motion and their way of holding their front legs in an attitude reminiscent of a crab spreading its claws as a threat.
