Numenius phaeopus
Fairly large (40 - 45cm in length), brownish wader with long and slightly curved bill. It also sports whitish belly and vent. Easily distinguished from larger Curlew by it's lighter coloured supercilia (well seen in pic N°1).
Seen wading in wetlands of ornithological reserve 'Podgredom', in delta of Neretva river in southern Croatia. There were a group of dozen of them, mixed with larger group egrets, feeding in these brackish ponds and sandy islets.
