Western carpenter ant

Camponotus modoc

Description:

A black carpenter ant with dark red legs, thin waste, bent antennae and shiny bands of hairs on the abdomen. These are workers generally 7 to 13 mm.

Habitat:

Spotted on a rotting log in a mostly pine and fir forest. Occur in western North America.

Notes:

Known to tunnel thru wood to expand there living area which can cause structural damage to homes and wooden structures.
