Archilochus alexandri
Small hummingbird with a green back and black throat. This is a male. They have a strip of bright purple at the base of the black coloring on their neck which is only visible in the sun. They have a long black bill.
Found drinking from a feeder. These hummingbirds can be found in a variety of habitats such as lowland deserts, forests, and urban areas just to name a few.
Fun Facts: 1. "During courtship and territorial defense, males display by diving 66-100 feet." 2. The Black-chinned hummingbirds nest is built to expand as the nestlings grow. 3.
