This is a Sea Spider that I brought up on fishing line from a depth of 2000 feet near the island of Adak in Alaska. In 25 years that I have been a commercial fisherman, this is only the third specimen that I have ever seen. It is about 20 cm in diameter and has two curious hook-like arms that I guess might be used as anchors against the strong Aleutian current.

Amazing creature John. Good spotting!
AWESOME!!!
I've moved this to arthropods for you.
it basically looks like 8 legs joined together and that's it ! no head nor body ! Amazing creature ...worth a David Cronenberg movie... :D
How big was this one? The ones I've seen along the California coast have been pretty small ~ 1 cm.
Beautiful!
WOW!!! Hermosa!!! No sabía que existían!!! Increíble!!!
Spooky, yet attractive!
Context given with the description is just wonderful. Valuable capture. Thanks for sharing.
Amazing!
Oh my God, I have to agree with all of you! So awesome! But do you have it in water or how it survive in your house? You brought it from 2000 ft under water, and you live approximately 1200 ft above sea level!
Project Noah certainly expands one's horizons! So awesome!
Yes, in the 25 years that I have been a commercial fisherman, I have seen only 2 or 3. I actually have this specimen in a tupperware container in my house.
Very interesting!
This is absolutely insane. I can safely say I've never seen anything like it before, wow!
