This photo was taken at Fall Creeks Falls State Park. I have seen these at Cane Creek Park in Cookeville, TN, also.
It's a skink in the genus Eumeces, probably a Broad-headed Skink, Eumeces laticeps. It's tough to say for sure without conducting an upper labial scale count.
