I think the latter one is more possible too~ I can see the scientific name of Crocothemis chinensis in insects.org, maybe that's a synonym of Crocothemis servilia??
Maybe either red skimmer (Crocothemis chinensis: http://www.insects.org/entophiles/odon_0...) or scarlet skimmer/scarlet darter (Crocothemis servilia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scarlet_Ski...). The latter is apparently fairly common in Malaysia.
