Trillium

Description:

3 leaves, 3 petals, white or maroon in color, ~25-30cm tall

Habitat:

Wooded area just up the bank from a stream. Mostly shade. Cool and moist.

Notes:

The root can be used to treat menstrual cramps as well as being prepared into a paste to cover wounds or infected eyes to aid in healing. The young leaves are great in a salad or as a pot herb, tasting like sunflower seeds. http://www.flickr.com/photos/eggrole/

Fyi the name birthroot comes from the fact that the root can be used to treat menstrual cramps. The young leaves are great for salad, tasting like sunflower seeds.
