Willet

Tringa semipalmata

Description:

There was about 15 Willets huddled together during a wind storm. I was surprised they were able to stay on their one leg as well as they did. The winds had to blowing 35 mph. Standing on one leg allows birds to conserve heat, an effective strategy especially in the winter.

Habitat:

Spotted at the Alabama Point East beach.
