Southern Masked Weaver

Ploceus velatus

Description:

A male Southern Masked Weaver building a nest.

Habitat:

This weaver is very widespread and found in a wide range of habitats, including shrubland, savanna, grassland, open woodland, inland wetlands and semi-desert areas. It also occurs in suburban gardens and parks.

Notes:

It was very interesting watching this male weaver bird build his nest in a thorn tree in my parents' garden in Pretoria, South Africa.
