Golden dung fly

Scathophaga stercoraria

Description:

Adult males have golden-yellow hairs. Females are grayer. The adult body length is 7-9 mm. Adults prey on smaller insects and can consume nectar and dung as additional sources of energy.

Habitat:

Spotted on low vegetation at the edge of a wetland at Flaming Geyser State Park.

Notes:

Found throughout North America and much of the world.
